Carey was once a popular fashion model. She's 5'10" tall and was popular among top American designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc. In 1979, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists elected the father of her Scientist of the Year. The father of Carey was a geologist who traveled the globe as a part of his career. She started modeling part time while she was attending university at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of a representative from the Ford model Agency in New York. In 1980, she moved to France for a brief period of time, and lived in Paris as well as Bordeaux, before returning in New York in order to pursue the modeling profession.
